Job Description

We are looking for an experienced Solar Electrical Design Engineer with minimum 5 years of experience in the electrical design and engineering of ground-mounted utility-scale Solar PV projects, preferably covering both domestic and international projects.
The candidate should be capable of independently handling electrical design activities from pre-bid through detailed engineering, with strong technical and client-facing skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and optimize complete electrical designs for utility-scale Solar PV plants, including DC/AC systems, inverter configuration, MV collection systems and grid interconnection.
  • Prepare and review SLDs, electrical layouts, cable routing, equipment layouts and electrical schematics.
  • Perform electrical design calculations including:
    o DC/AC/MV cable sizing and voltage drop
    o Fuse and protection sizing
    o Transformer and switchgear sizing
    o Short-circuit and load-flow calculations
    o Reactive power and power factor calculations
    o Earthing and lightning protection calculations
    o Electrical losses and other design calculations
  • Prepare technical specifications and datasheets for major electrical equipment.
  • Review vendor technical offers, drawings, datasheets and deviations, and prepare technical evaluation/comparison.
  • Support pre-bid engineering, including tender/RFP review, technical clarifications, preliminary designs, equipment sizing and Electrical BOM/BOQ preparation.
  • Identify technical risks, design optimization opportunities and commercial implications during the bidding and engineering stages.
  • Coordinate with Civil, Mechanical, SCADA, Structural, Procurement and Project teams for multidisciplinary design integration.
  • Participate in client/consultant meetings, present technical solutions, respond to queries and drive technical issues to closure.
  • Ensure designs comply with applicable IEC, IEEE, NEC/NFPA, local regulations, grid codes and project specifications.
  • Support engineering deliverables through design review, quality checks and timely closure of client/vendor comments.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in Solar PV electrical design.
  • Strong experience in ground-mounted utility-scale Solar PV projects.
  • Experience in pre-bid as well as detailed/post-bid engineering.
  • International project experience will be an added advantage.

Technical Skills
  • Strong knowledge of Solar PV electrical system design and optimization.
  • Knowledge of electrical study/design tools such as ETAP, DIgSILENT, PSCAD or CYMCAP is desirable.
  • Good understanding of electrical equipment, protection systems, grid compliance and applicable international standards.
