Job Description

The Safety Head is responsible for leading and managing all Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) activities for the construction of mission-critical Data Center projects. The role ensures compliance with statutory regulations, client HSE requirements, and company policies while fostering a proactive safety culture to achieve zero incidents and support safe project execution.

Key Responsibilities

HSE Leadership

  • Lead and manage the site HSE team, including Safety Managers, Safety Officers, and Safety Supervisors.
  • Develop and implement the Project HSE Management Plan.
  • Promote a strong safety culture through leadership and employee engagement.
  • Ensure compliance with company HSE policies and client-specific safety requirements.

Regulatory Compliance
  • Ensure compliance with: 
    o Building and Other Construction Workers (BOCW) Act.
    o National Building Code (NBC).
    o Factories Act (where applicable).
    o IS Standards and OSHA best practices.
    o Local statutory regulations.
    o Client HSE standards and contractual requirements.

  • Coordinate with government authorities during inspections.

Risk Assessment & Planning

  • Prepare and review:
    o Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment (HIRA).
    o Job Safety Analysis (JSA).
    o Method Statements.
    o Permit-to-Work (PTW) procedures.
    o Emergency Response Plans.
  • Ensure all high-risk activities are properly assessed and controlled.
Site Safety Management
  • Monitor all construction activities including:
    o Excavation.
    o Concrete works.
    o Structural steel erection.
    o Scaffolding.
    o Tower crane operations.
    o Mobile crane lifting activities.
    o Formwork and shuttering.
    o Electrical works.
    o Welding and cutting.
    o MEP installation.
    o HVAC installation.
    o Roofing works.
    o Work at height.
    o Confined space entry.

  • Ensure safe work practices are implemented throughout the project.
Permit-to-Work (PTW) Management
  • Implement and monitor PTW systems for:
    o Hot Work.
    o Work at Height.
    o Confined Space Entry.
    o Electrical Isolation (LOTO).
    o Lifting Operations.
    o Excavation Work.
    o Energization Activities.

  • Verify compliance before issuing permits.

Safety Inspections & Audits
  • Conduct daily site safety inspections.
  • Perform weekly and monthly HSE audits.
  • Identify unsafe conditions and unsafe acts.
  • Monitor closure of corrective and preventive actions.
  • Prepare audit reports and follow-up actions.
Incident Investigation
  • Lead investigations for:
    o Near Misses.
    o First Aid Cases.
    o Medical Treatment Cases.
    o Lost Time Injuries (LTI).
    o Property Damage Incidents.

  • Conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA).
  • Recommend corrective and preventive measures.
  • Submit investigation reports to management and clients.
Emergency Preparedness
  • Develop Emergency Response Plans.
  • Organize mock drills for:
    o Fire emergencies.
    o Medical emergencies.
    o Electrical incidents.
    o Confined space rescue.
    o Evacuation procedures.

  • Coordinate with local emergency response agencies.

Safety Training
  • Conduct:
    o Safety induction programs.
    o Toolbox Talks.
    o Specialized safety training.
    o Refresher training.
    o Supervisor safety workshops.

  • Evaluate competency of workers before assigning critical tasks.

Environmental Management
  • Ensure proper waste segregation and disposal.
  • Monitor dust, noise, and environmental pollution control measures.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental regulations.
  • Promote sustainable construction practices.
